I got to hold my boy in the box today. He snuggled right in and curled up with his butt in my face, tail flapping. He sniffed some of his own hair that was statically clinging to the inside of the cardboard, sneezed lightly, then used the tip of his tail to wipe his nose off, swish swish.
Looked out the window and watched the branches shaking in the breeze. It's a yellow-grey sky today, kinda depressing. My wrist hurts from the angle I'm holding the boy in the box. The box is resting right on top of my abdominal hernia, I shift it around a little and put the weight on a different part of my arm. This too hurts later, it's a constant game of shifting weights because boxes aren't soft like cats.
I patched some software at work today. That's my job right now. I patch software. I don't write new code. I look at the website that says THIS CODE BAD and I change from COKE to NEW COKE and then eventually NEW COKE NEXT and so on.
I read some news on the internet. Things are still on fire out there with very little end in sight. I'm not sure what to look forward to these days. Is the light on the horizon just me quitting my job?
My girl is on the floor looking up at me through her front paws. She's splayed out on her side fully stretched-out back legs, front legs bent and pulled up to her chin like a begging street urchin.
I think about them often when I worry about the future. No I don't, actually I don't think about anyone when I think about the future. It's just a nebulous idea. Good, bad, indifferent, all of it. Maybe I'll try to think specifically about the well being of my loved ones in the future, usually I'm just trying to get through the day, week, or month. I wish I thought about them.
Where'd my boy go?
